dead soldier

Certainly it wouldn’t stay lit.

The flame just wouldn’t commit.

His hands were so cold it made him feel older.

The lighter seemed to be a dead soldier.

Goodbye is what he told her.

Didn’t consider summer was over.

Looking and looking for his lost clover.

Heart beating faster,

all he could hear her laughter.

Shivering, dithering, his self esteem withering.

She made him feel like a king.

Why couldn’t he just give her the ring.

Her smile made his heart sing.

A mile he had walked when his phone went ping.

The message was clear.  She took him sincere.

Because of the rain no one to see him tear.

Let’s just do this! There’s no need to prove this.

I don’t want to lose this. You’re the only one who can improve this

Way past an innocent tryst.   She is at the top of the list!

Better to use lists than clenched fists.

Grits in the bowl felt like music for his soul

Staying authentic the ultimate goal

No need for the red carpet, or a place on the stock market

Crooked paths were his favorite math
